Happy first Saturday in December, everyone! That means it’s time to put on your boogie shoes! And with that in mind, for our first-ever paid issue, we’ve made something extra special to thank you for being with us: a Holiday Party Dressing Shop, with 40+ extra special and unexpected pieces that we think will make you the absolute life of the party.
Going forward, for our paid subscribers, we’ll be offering occasional special packages like this plus our regular monthly newsletter, where we promise to continue to bring you ideas that make life just a little bit more beautiful, jolly and peaceful.
This month’s issue includes a lot of multi-generational family businesses and is brimming with things that we desperately want for ourselves, but would also give as gifts—because that’s the golden rule for giving really good presents, right?! With that, we wish you revelry and relaxation as we twirl into the last 29 days of the year. We can’t wait to see you in 2024, the year of the dragon!
It’s New York City. Disco is in the air. There goes Loulou de la Falaise, Marina Schiano and Diana Vreeland. There are more silken ikats, gold lamé blouses, embroidered velvet boleros and taffeta peasant skirts spinning around the dance floor than lit cigarettes, and there are a lot of those! For our first annual Holiday Party Shop, we drew inspiration from the finery of Yves Saint Laurent’s designs from the late 1970s—and actual party looks from an epic soirée the designer threw for the launch of YSL’s Opium fragrance, which kicked off on a pirate ship on the Hudson with an after party at Studio 54. (Andy Warhol said it was the party he most regretted not attending.) Below, you’ll find pieces from contemporary designers we love and a few very special things from Yves Saint Laurent’s collections during those fabulous last days of disco.
